Prescription and Over The Counter (OTC) drugs are important and can be beneficial products that improve and save lives – but only if they are used as medically intended. When prescription and OTC drugs are not being used as directed on the bottle of by a physician, bad things can happen: dramatic increases in blood pressure and heart rate, organ damage, addiction, difficulty breathing, seizures and possibly death. 1

Everyday 2,500 youth, ages 12 to 17 abuse a pain reliever for the very first time. More teens abuse prescription drugs than any illicit drug except marijuana.
